Why Weddings? A Story About Passion, Chaos, Creativity — and Why We Love Saying ‘Yes’ to Your Big Day

We’re Reece & Ben, the duo behind Scream Star Media. Most people know us for our commercial and music work — gritty gigs, moody music videos, short films, the kind of projects where chaos and creativity constantly compete. But if you scroll through our portfolio or talk to us for more than five minutes, one thing becomes obvious: we’re head-over-heels for weddings.

Yes. Weddings.

We know, we know. It might sound like a left turn. But for us, weddings aren’t a compromise. They’re a culmination.

From Loud Stages to Quiet Vows

We cut our teeth in event videography and live music. Ben has been a drummer in a heavy metal band, and Reece has designed everything from editorial spreads to short film posters. Our lives have always been a mix of visual storytelling, tech know-how, and a love for honest moments. We didn’t get into weddings because they were the obvious next step. We got into them because they surprised us.

And we’ve learned that weddings have more in common with music gigs than people realise. They have a build-up, a rhythm, a setlist. There are high-energy moments and intimate ones. There’s a crowd. There’s a couple at the centre of it all, stepping out into something wildly vulnerable and beautiful. If a concert is music come to life, a wedding is love made visible.

Ben the Charmer, Reece the Quiet Technician

Our dynamic plays a huge part in how we approach wedding days. Ben’s the guy who can walk into a room full of strangers and make it feel like home in five minutes. He’s also the guy behind the video lens, watching for the unscripted moments: the squeeze of a hand, the shaking of nerves, the spontaneous laughter.

Reece is the quieter half. More behind-the-scenes. He’s the techie with a photographer’s eye and a writer’s mind. He’s seen enough weddings to know that the plan never survives contact with reality, and he’s constantly adjusting, recalibrating, solving the puzzle before anyone knows there was one.

Together, we operate like a band in sync. One watching the stage, one watching the crowd. We listen, adapt, and make sure your day is captured with feeling and honesty.

Weddings Are Beautiful Chaos

Reece shot his first wedding at 18. It was also the first wedding he’d ever attended. Since then, we’ve both seen enough to know that every wedding is a melting pot of genres. You’ve got portraits, products, candids, concerts, editorial fashion, documentary film — all in one.

You don’t walk into a wedding and expect to follow the script. You walk in ready to read the room, feel the rhythm, and move with it. That’s what makes weddings electric.

They’re alive.

They breathe the personality of their hosts. They shimmer with details only you would choose. They pulse with emotion, laughter, and sometimes chaos. But it’s never just chaos. It’s intentional chaos, and we thrive in it.

The Art of Expectation (and Breaking It)

Let’s be real: everyone says they want something unique. But at some point, people start asking for the same shots. The same poses. The same Pinterest boards. That’s not a bad thing. Traditions are beautiful.

But we believe our job is to fill in the gaps. To look for the moments between the moments. To know when to gently guide and when to just let it happen. We meet you halfway between your vision and your reality. And hopefully, we deliver something that doesn’t just match your expectations, but nudges them higher.

We don’t just take pictures. We tell stories. We don’t just roll footage. We craft memory.

A Quiet Faith, a Bold Purpose

If you spend any time with us, you’ll realise our work is more than just a job. It’s part of how we live out our values. As Christians, we believe in the sacredness of vows, in love as a divine reflection, and in the joy of serving others through our gifts.

We won’t preach. That’s not our style. But everything we do is shaped by a quiet conviction that these moments matter beyond the surface. That they reflect something bigger. And that every wedding is a holy kind of chaos we’re honoured to witness.

Why We Keep Saying Yes

We don’t know exactly what the future holds for Scream Star Media. Our work spans commercials, editorial, live music, short films, and more. But every time we step into a wedding, something wakes up in us. A creative fire. A sense of purpose. A deep joy.

Weddings remind us why we do this.

They keep us on our toes. They keep us humble. They test our limits and reward our creativity.

They let us make something real.

So why weddings? Because they demand everything we have: our instincts, our friendship, our patience, our humour, our skills, and our hearts. Because they’re unpredictable and joyful and full of meaning. Because they allow us to serve, to create, and to celebrate what matters most.

And because, if we’re honest, we’re romantics at heart.

Even Ben. (Especially Ben.)
